McGrattan's lost season

2317406287_75ce4a0dbe_medium

You'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who had a tougher go of things last season than Brian McGrattan, who signed a near league-minimum deal with the Flames on the weekend. I've got a look back at his mess of a 2008-09 season with the Coyotes over at Globe on Hockey, as well as some quotes from his agent and former coach.

I'm not sure anyone's played that many games postlockout while averaging less than four minutes ice time a game. It'll be interesting to see if he gets more of a chance to play in Calgary.

Andrew Peters (BUF) has probably played more games than McGrattan since the lockout…and I really doubt Peters has averaged 4 minutes/ game in that span.

I suppose there’s a reason…they’re both pretty horrible hockey players.

What makes me even more sick: Peters was a high 2nd round pick.

Players like that are the strongest argument for cutting the roster limit by one.

I've seen enough to know that I've seen too much.

Who cars if McGrattan makes it back? He’s a no talent goon who gets paid half a million dollars per year to lope around the ice for four shifts and hopefully punch somebody in the face.

While you’re at work hoping to pay your bills McGrattan sucks at hockey and is a multimillionaire.

Well… he’s cheap, at least.

Darryl Sutter likes his reclamation projects though. Bryan Marchment, Todd Bertuzzi, Brian McGratton. Of the three, McGratton is the one I’m least embarrassed to see in Flames silks.
