Havlat speaks out on Tallon demotion
Thank heavens for Twitter in situations like this.
Martin Havlat is now a member of the Wild but being spurned by the Blackhawks on July 1 has clearly left him with a bit of a grudge. This afternoon on his Twitter account, he offered some somewhat cryptic comments on the fact the Bowmans have taken over after Dale Tallon was forced out of the GM seat in Chicago.
"I guess everyone saw what happened to Dale.... yes, the story is starting to come out but it's just the tip of the iceberg," he wrote at about 1:30 p.m. today.
Two minutes later, Havlat offered: "Lot's of people are telling me to stay quiet but shouldn't the fans know the truth? It's your loyalty, season ticket money and emotions here."
And, then, finally: "What do you people think? Interested to know your thoughts."
That's all he's said to this point, but maybe that's enough. It's easy to infer that, when Havlat wasn't offered more than a one-year contract, he feels it wasn't Tallon's doing — despite the fact he was then the GM.
UPDATE Havlat clarified his thoughts a few minutes later: "Just so everyone begins to understand, Dale was like a 2nd father to me."
Not a lot of ambiguity there, is there?
"Want to be clear. I loved my time in Chicago but moved on. Very excited about Minny, going to give everything I have to the Wild. By telling truth, don't want people to think I'm bitter. Everyone in Minn. has been awesome, they believe in me and I won't let them down."
UPDATE Havlat's agent, Allan Walsh, is now following suit with his own comments: "Dale Tallon is a stand up guy and I have unqualified respect for him. He is honorable and loyal to a fault. Huge loss for Chicago.
"What happened between Marty and Chicago had nothing to do with Dale Tallon. Dale is a friend and will always be a friend."
Not a lot of ambiguity there, is there?

When Scotty Bowman takes charge, there are bound to be noses bent out of joint.. He’s not shy about making the changes he sees as necessary… It makes one wonder about the discussion within the Chicago front office when it came to the Havlat/Hossa decisions.
BTW, someone should find the video clip from the playoffs where they (CBC I think) caught Tallon and Bowman in a heated discussion after Brian Campbell made a big giveaway. I remember the commentary being basically that Bowman was saying something to the effect of “that’s YOUR guy right there.”
More fun than a stick to the face!

oh yeah
I remember seeing that clip. Scotty was LIVID and you could tell there was going to be some movement in the front office this summer.

RT@martinhavlat Just so everyone begins to understand, Dale was like a 2nd father to me.

This is fascinating
Sounds like he’s not a big fan of the Bowman mafia.

There aren’t many people out there who are big fans of Scotty Bowman, the human being. I remember Ken Dryden saying that, 364 days a year, all of the Candiens hated his guts. On the 365th, they got their Stanley Cup rings.

Actually, there are people who are extremely surprised by Scotty Bowman in person after experiencing him in his coaching capacity. Most people mistake how Bowman acts as a coach for how he is as a human being in general. Ken Dryden also said that as players, they didn’t know Scotty outside of as their coach. Coach Scotty, if you want to call him a human being, is different than Scotty Bowman outside of when he was coaching.

That may well be. Personally, I find this to be a meaningless distinction. How you behave as a boss is an integral part of how you behave as a human being, and if you are an asshole at work but not otherwise, it means you are very good at compromising any ethics you have to not be an asshole.

What’s better than having players tweet without advice from their agent, manager, and PR team. Timebomb. Love it. A lawsuit waiting to happen.

wouldn’t it be a league-imposed fine?

Wow
just when you think the Havlat tweeting is over…BOOM! He fires off these gems. I gotta admit it kinda broke my heart a little when he mentioned that whole “2nd father” thing.
PS- I don’t think they can fine the players, because there are no precedents or official rules governing Twitter at this point. I bet the NHL brass will come up with some guidelines this year.

I hope they don’t. I love seeing the players on Twitter – Komisarek is there too, I love reading how excited he is to come to Toronto.

I’m becoming a bigger fan of Havlat with each Tweet he sends out. An NHL player stirring up a bit of dust and controversy? Unheard of!

Re: Komisarek
It’s not really a bright idea of Mikey’s to tell the world that he’s still rehabbing his shoulder.

Wonder if Lucic is following Mike’s twitter feed?
by Habs on Jul 14, 2009 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Doubt it.
I’m sure Burke guaranteed Komisarek that he wouldn’t have to fight Lucic as part of the deal of coming to Toronto, seeing that Mike can’t fight.

Don’t know about Exit716, but I’ve personally always cringed whenever I saw Komi drop the gloves. Great stand-up guy, but he’s no better fighter than Tom Kostopoulos.
Though now he probably won’t have to fight, considering the rest of the Leafs lineup… still has to face Lucic 6 times a year though.

Colton Orr better ensure that Komisarek doesn’t have to fight in those games.

It’s not exactly a secret that his shoulder is being rehabbed.

It just sounds like Havlat is twitterpated with Tallon. It’s like a Disney movie.

The Walsh Tweets make me wonder a bit. That story of Kevin Dupont’s from the weekend mentions that McDonough may have gotten involved in delaying the RFA offers. As I’m sure everyone recalls, Walsh was all over the Hawks in his now-deleted Twitter comments, which everyone automatically read as a slam on Tallon. It’s certainly possible that the only reason Tallon was fired was because he’s just a screw-up, but a set-up based on boardroom politics shouldn’t be discounted out of hand. That said, anyone who thinks that ridiculous Campbell contract is a worthy firing offense is not out of line in my books.

To swing this back towards players and away from management, there is nothing I like more than a player with a grudge. Season long motivation served up by the Hawks.
I also beleive that Khabibulin left with a bit of a grudge, and has something to prove.

It's STAN, not Scotty...
Seems there’s a lot of confusion about which of the Me and Mini-Me’s is now the GM. It’s officially STAN, not Scotty. I get the sub-text, though.
