Crosby to celebrate birthday with Cup

Forget balloons and streamers. Sid the Kid is going to celebrate the way a hockey star should — with the Cup in hand. A source told The Chronicle Herald on Thursday that Sidney Crosby is bringing the Stanley Cup to Cole Harbour on Aug. 7, the day he will celebrate his 22nd birthday.

On the agenda? A street hockey battle with some of his old pals to play for the Cup.

Although I don't think there'll be any engraving done.

Will the captain of the street hockey game’s winning team get to sleep with the Cup at least?

Every Canadian Kid's Dream Come True

Imagine playing street hockey for the real Stanley Cup on your 22nd birthday. If it were a movie script, no one would believe it.

Congrats Kid – enjoy it to the max!!

And to think when I turned 22 I went out drinking and then buckled back down for final college exams and worrying about finding a job somewhere.

Crosby’s won almost every individual award for a forward, been named captain, made a ton of money and the Stanley Cup.

His ascension is past borderline ridiculous. If he leads Canada to the gold this winter, what’s he really got left to accomplish or do for the first time? He’ll have practically done it all at least once.

Somehow these accomplishments seem to be rendered nearly banal by hockey fans. It’s staggering what this guy has been able to get done since entering the league!

Until he wins the Mark Messier Leadership Award, I don’t think his accomplishments are legit.

So what if Malkin leads the Russians to gold this winter, then?

This is a joke, right?

The Messier thing, yes.

The Malkin thing, not so much. I see it being a three-team tourney between Canada, Russia, and Sweden as your three contenders (and most likely medalists).

No love for Team USA? Apart from a potential question mark in goal (will Thomas keep it up? if not, can Miller stay healthy?), they look like they can ice a solid team, and with Burke at the helm you can be sure this team won’t be easy to play against.

Considering the history of the cup, stranger things have happened.

Just engrave it under 2004-05. Would anyone object? ;)

Let’s hope Crosby won’t poop in the cup then.

Capri Suns and Goldfish Crackers. That’s how he will celebrate.

Well, he is a Big Boy now ...

Since it’s a special occasion and everything, maybe Mario will let him have one – just one- soda pop.
