Robert Esche, the supermarket goalie

Hey look, it's former NHL goaltender Robert Esche, pretending he's a goalie in a Russian supermarket!

Huh? Oh here we go:

The Kontinental Hockey League (KHL) has started production on a series of commercials to generate excitement for the second season. Last weekend, SKA St. Petersburg goalie Robert Esche, an American who was a KHL All-Star last season, participated in the filming of the first promo clip.

More pictures here. And I'll remind you that it is mid-August.

Is he channeling Ryan O’Byrne by taking that woman’s purse?

Hockey blogging can't get any flatter.

It’s not a purse, it’s a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

But can he stop bagged milk?

Can it before I drive this truculence through your faceulence and put you in an ambulance.

I’d like to see him try stopping a 4-litre jug of milk.

Or a puck.

Ahhhh, Memories.

Remember the wonderful “Out-of-work Goalie” commercials that Nike gave us back in the day? Specifically the Flyers goalie working as a janitor?

Those were great commercials and wonderful YouTube lookups.

Comedic great Jim Gaffigan even guest stars in one of them as the passenger in a cab driven by a sundin-loathing Habbie Cabbie.

You’d think that the KHL would pay Robert enough to get a purse that at least matched his shoes….

Just like when he was on the Flyers!
