Will the state allow the Islanders to stay on Long Island?
With all the excitement of drafting John Tavares, will this positive momentum build a state of the art arena in Long Island finally?
The future of this arena is still foggy as ever since the '03-04 season. Since then it looked like Charles Wang's Islanders boat would sail and scout for greener pastures like Kansas City. I find it to be an excellent way to revitalize downtown by tying an arena to the street cape much like the Columbus Blue Jackets have done.
On Tuesday August 4th, Long Islanders are having a public hearing at 9:30 am. for The Lighthouse Project.
Also Islanders fans are having a rally at this event need your support to not lose all the history they have accumulated with those four Stanley Cups won in the '80s with the potential to have Tavares win another Cup at least without being shipped away to Kansas City.
(since these are not on YouTube you will have to cut and paste to view these 2 videos.)

It looks like a nice project indeed, I admit I have never been to Long Island, however I do question its location being still in the suburbs? Transportation cost to continue bringing people there, and why not revitalize a downtown that is already existing.

They’ve done something similar in Foxboro. Last I heard, it turned out pretty fine.
I don't need no instructions to know how to rock!

Ray Champagne, there already ARE people there- Nassau County is more densely populated than most places in America that you think of as “cities”. This is more about keeping them there and about kelping to encourage people in the 21-39 range from leaving and going elsewhere. What “existing downtown” are you talking about?
Lets go Islanders...

I do not want to sound ignorant but it seems to me like they are creating a new downtown area. I am wondering what ever happened to old downtown. I am sure there is one in Long Island? Just asking?
