Kane case ends with an apology
Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick T. Kane and his cousin James M. Kane pleaded guilty today to a non-criminal charge of disorderly conduct for an early-morning fee incident with a Buffalo taxicab driver Aug. 9.
Chief City Judge Thomas P. Amodeo granted them both conditional discharges and ordered them to make a written apologies to the cabbie and pay $125 each in court fees.
There's really not a whole lot more to say on all this, other than the fact that the basic details in the case have been borne out by the fact there was a guilty plea and an apology to the cab driver. I'd thought perhaps Kane's cousin would have potentially faced more serious consequences given at one point the player's defence lawyer said his client wasn't to blame, but in the eyes of the court, their conduct was apparently equal (and not serious given they both lack criminal records).
Here's hoping this is merely an ill-advised blip during an otherwise stellar career.

If anybody has a link to the facts that were read in to the record to support this plea, I’d love to know what they were.

And now he’s out 12,480 more cents than he would have been if he had just left the matter alone.

Do we even want to consider how many dimes Kane’s lawyers milked him for?

The cabbie probably has a pretty big dime collection now.

No word on how big a “tip” (settlement) the cabbie will be getting?

I highly doubt any information like that will come out.

That’s normally handled out of court and with the knowledge that he’s not to speak of it. But I’m sure you can make an educated guess based on how tricked out his cab is.

I wonder what PR flack Kane will get to write his “apology.”

Humble Pie
So I’m sure that tomorrow in the Globe and Mail we can expect Bruce Dowbiggin to write an apology to Tom Benjamin and writers of hockey blogs in general for treating them like children, now that Kane is convicted of the very thing he was accused of. Can’t we Bruce?

lol. Good ole Doh-boy. I’m going to have to go ahead and self-censor my opinions of Bicycle Bruce, given James is a co-worker of his.

I’m sure he feels bad enough with a last name like Dowbiggin.

Look at the arrows and knives!
Frankly I find many of the remarks about Kane quite amusing. Seriously, very funny like the photobucket thing… hilarious! I can’t contain my laughter to think some of you have had what 3 weeks to dig into Kane and that’s the best you guys can come up with LMAO.
It’s all Kane’s fault for sure- your right! He has no integrity-your right! It could never be a kid locked inside a cab at 4 a.m. in the morning by a man that has been convicted numerous times for driving without a valid driver’s license and driving while under the influence- NOOOO! It couldn’t be a cab driver that lives in a trailer-park looking for a quick and easy payday for that would never happen in Canada and America…NEVER!
Once the cab driver (Jan Radecki) and his lawyer (Andrew LoTempio) went public with this fiasco he had Patrick Kane right were he wanted him. For the public reaction was all but enough to start this whole thing rolling. All Radecki needed was a couple witnesses to say they saw an altercation between the 3 parties involved for it to become a case. Disorderly conduct means to me that all that ever happened was a shouting match between the 3 parties over the cab fare and now sources have been leaked that it wasn’t over 20 cents that it was over Radecki not having change supposedly for a $100 bill provided by Kane. But who wants to ruin a good story of a fallen athlete by the truth?
I do not condone Kane and his cousins actions, especially given the fact that I do believe that alcohol was a determing factor and that Patrick was underage. To Patrick Kane’s credit he has become a huge star in the NHL and something my Blackhawks have needed for years but he has also got to learn with the price of fame comes the responsibility that goes along with it – and that he has learned, unfortunately, the hard way. Getting into a war of words at 4 a.m. in a well publicated area, in a city, is not appropriate behaviour by anybody let alone Patrick Kane and for that he should feel shame and hopefully teaches a lot of young kids that look up to Patrick Kane on how not to act when approached with a dispute. Sometimes life is harsh you just got to roll with the punches and learn from it and I’m sure Kane has. He really is a nice kid that just got caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time and reacted with poor judgement. But let’s be clear he never hit Radecki or else he would have been faced with an assault charge or something much worse and if he did he wouldn’t have been found ‘Not Guilty’ of those charges.
Kane is a kid that made a mistake and in the end it is all behind him. It’s over people, let it go and move on with your lives.

Let Kane write his own apology, Hawks.

Honorable mention for “best use of an inappropriate image given the situation,” perhaps?
Sometimes life is harsh you just got to roll with the punches and learn from it and I’m sure Kane has.
It certainly has my nomination.

So, I'm going to get all the Kane Lovers Mad But....
re:
“There’s really not a whole lot more to say on all this, other than the fact that the basic details in the case have been borne out by the fact there was a guilty plea and an apology to the cab driver. …”
Kane SHOULD NOT be on the US Olympic team. Wasn’t it just a few short mmonths ago that Michael Phelps stepped back form international competition and also issued several apologies, far more sincere and heartfelt for simply allowing himself to be seen on the internet looking like he was smoking pot? Kane PLEADED GUILTY – give it up – he is GUILTY by HIS OWN ADMISSION. Actions like this should have consequences – remember he needs this to have consequences – real ones – if he really is going to learn from them – he is a 20 year old kid. Do you want him to go the way of Michael Vick? Ray Emery? etc…
Look at the facts not what you want them to be but what there is. He got into a bad situation, he is not of the age to consume alchohol, he is a high profile guy and he was in a poart of town in the late night/early morning hours where the bars are. He got into a disagreement of some sort with a cab driver. In the end he was charged with a crime – al be it a misdemeanor – and he PLEADED GUILTY. No one could come to his defense so he could refute the charges. This is NOT the Cab Drivers fault, why would he have pleaded GUILTY if it was? We kick track and field guys and swimmers off/preclude them from internatntional teams for some period of time when they do stupid things… Kane should NOT be part of USA Hockey for at least a season, he can play in the 2014 Olympics, if he makes the team then. He needs to feel the consequences of his actions – this is like a mosquito bite and he’ll learn nothing from it.

Kicking off Kane?
As a Canadian I hope so, but for what? Because he got into a shouting match with a cab driver over him not having change for Kane’s $100 bill? C’mon now. Granted he was out ‘til 4 a.m. but don’t tell me he is the first to do it. Kane’s situation is far different than Phelps who just competed for the U.S. in the World Aquatic Championship and won 5 gold medals and was withdrawn from a U.S. swim meet for having his picture taken using an illegal substance. Alcohol is not illegal, marijuana is.
How can you or anybody for that matter compare Kane to Emery and/or Vick? Emery basically became the scapegoat for a flourdering Otawa team and is off-ice actions were eventually became a distraction to the team thus his exit. Vick was let go by the Falcons because he was going to jail for an illegally organizing dog-fighting matches were money was involved. Off-field yes but much different than Kane’s situation.
Most nations as well kick off track and field athletes for doing stupid things like…um steriods, please don’t compare Patrick Kane to Ben Johnson.
“remember he needs this to have consequences”? I’ve read this over and over and it still doesn’t make sense.
‘Kane should not be a part of USA hockey for at least a season, he can play in the 2014 Olympics…" that would be 4 years my friend not one.
“this is like a mosquito bite and he’ll learn nothing from it." I tend to think the public humiliation of this occurance combined with the tortured comments he shall receive from the opposition and its fans should suffice. All in all he has learned from this so please move on with your life.
