Senators re-sign Elliott

Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has signed goaltender Brian Elliott to a two-year contract.

Elliott, 24, appeared in 31 games with the Senators last season, posting a 16-8-3 record with a 2.77 goals-against-average and a .902 save percentage. He set a franchise record for a rookie goaltender when he won eight consecutive games from March 5-21. Elliott recorded his first National Hockey League shutout on March 29, making 20 saves in Ottawa's 3-0 win in Tampa against the Lightning.

The native of Newmarket, Ont., also appeared in 30 games with the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators, posting an 18-8-1 record with two shutouts, a 2.31 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage. Elliott was selected as the starting Canadian goaltender for the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic but was unable to play after being recalled to Ottawa on Jan. 9, 2009.

The 6-2, 199-pound Elliott made his NHL debut during the 2007-08 season, making 28 saves in Ottawa's 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Oct. 10, 2007.
