Five teams need a captain: Who should they choose?
Well, another 'C' was handed out earlier today, with the Panthers giving the duties to Bryan McCabe in a bit of a surprise move. Five more teams are captainless to this point, and I'm curious who the masses think should fill those roles:

The Leafs should leave the captaincy vacant again this year.
It’s at least a year too early for Schenn. Komisarek or Beauchemin should play a season first. If Kaberle was worthy they’d have given it to him last year. And that’s pretty much it for realistic candidates.

I agree and would add the Canadiens to the list as well.
Maybe do a month by month rotation like the Hawks did 2 years ago.

I’d be shocked if Brian Gionta is not named the Habs’ captain with the way he’s conducted himself, and the way Jacques Martin talks about him and the tone he wants to establish for the team going forward. Markov is still the only other possible candidate in my mind, as I still think of Gomez as too jovial and light hearted for the role. And people are confusing a positive attitude and media friendlieness by Cammalleri with leadership.
It’s looking like Gionta to me, though. And the Habs are having a captain this year, Martin has already said there will be one named at the end of training camp.
Boyle should captain the Sharks. Hunter for the Isles, and Koivu for the Wild. There needs to be a Captain Koivu somewhere.
As for the Leafs, it’ll probably be the biggest douche in the world.

He’ll be the first captain in NHL history to get a lowercase “c”.
Tip your waitress folks, I’ll be here all week.

Except Heatley is a Shark now. :P

In a surprise move
the Leafs trade for Sean Avery and immediately name him captain. Flat blogger “saskhab” refuses to divulge his prescient sources…

For the Leafs I picked GM Burke. Show me in the rule books where it says a GM cannot be cap. If Luongo can wear the C so shold Burkie

San Jose Sharks
San Jose Mercury News:
Letter of the law: In hockey, the captain’s ‘C’ really does mean something
No one will be surprised if the Sharks’ letter goes to Boyle. – “Of course it’s a compliment,” Boyle said. “I guess it means people have respect for what I bring to the rink. We’ll see what happens. Obviously I want whatever is best for the team, but it would be an honor.”
I’d bet on Boyle
I'm a happy seal

I’m hoping they stay with Marleau myself.
Ever get the feeling we are on a collision course with reality?

M. Koivu, A. Markov, M. Streit (he’s the stabilizing blueliner, and I dunno how much longer Weight will be playing), D. Boyle (see Streit, here over Blake) and Kaberle.

You should’ve just picked N. Schultz for the Wild, he fits your pattern. :)

Hmm…I guess I have a natural bias towards defenseman captains. If Koivu was less experienced, then I would’ve gone with Schultz. I was thinking Schenn because Kaberle will likely be gone soon, but decided he is too young
