SBN Gameday: I Never Said I Was Deep
Today's soundtrack: I Never Said I Was Deep by Jarvis Cocker -- because the best game of the night (Finland vs. Germany) still lacks any real depth to challenge Finland's NHL-laden squad.
Belarus at Sweden, 3 PM EST (MSNBC, Sportsnet)
These two teams will forever be tied together by one name: Tommy Salo. Still, Belarus shouldn't be much of a problem for Henrik Lundqvist. Peter Forsberg's bionic foot is holding up so far, though much of Sweden's power play focus has been on the Sedin twins.
Czech Republic at Latvia, 7:30 PM EST (CNBC, Sportsnet)
Is Jaromir Jagr auditioning for an NHL job out there? He's not the Jagr of the mid-90s but he still looks pretty effective out there, and a game against non-NHLers should give him a good chance to showcase how his puck control skills are still strong.
Finland at Germany, 11:55 PM EST (MSNBC, CTV)
While the Finns undoubtedly have more talent than Germany, their style is similar in that both teams play a tough defensive game. Built in the same mold, Germany is one step below the Finns in each category: they have NHL forwards, but they're not as good; they have an NHL goalie but he's a backup; they've had some success but aren't a serious medal threat.
