SBN Gameday: Everything Counts

Today's soundtrack: Everything Counts by Depeche Mode -- one of these four teams won't go home with a medal. Who's it going to be?

Finland at USA, 3 PM EST (NBC, CTV; note that NBC will be live on the west coast)
The Americans shouldn't take the Finns lightly, not when their bottom line starts with Miikka Kiprusoff. The Finns play a tight, aggressive game similar to the Swiss, except they've got way more NHL talent throughout the roster. Drawing the Finns isn't a free pass by any means, and Ryan Miller and company should expect a tough, physical battle without a clear advantage in sight.

Slovakia at Canada, 9:30 PM EST (CNBC, CTV)
Is Slovakia the giant killer? They beat Russia, they took out the Swedes, so the sky's the limit, right? Conventional wisdom says no, not when facing a powerhouse Canadian team that seemed to wake up against Russia. Still, the Slovaks have quietly had one of the tournament's best goalies in Jaroslav Halak (his market value is skyrocketing). Their blueline is anchored by Norris winner Zdeno Chara and they've got scoring from Marian Gaborik, Marian Hossa, and other high-flying forwards. If Halak's game continues to be strong, this one could be interesting.

On a non-Olympic note, it's time to say farewell and congratulations to Brandon Worley of Defending Big D. Brandon is leaving SBN to go to greener pastures. What might those new digs be? Well, everyone's favorite hockey network NBC is getting more involved with the blog side of things, and Brandon will be the managing editor of this new site starting Monday. Best of luck, Brandon, and tell those NBC folks that they should keep Jeremy Roenick and ditch Mike Milbury.
