Dallas Goalie Move (Moves?)

The Atlanta Thrashers continue to retool, this time by moving oft-injured (but talented) goalie Kari Lehtonen to Dallas for Ivan Vishnevskiy and a fourth-round draft pick in the 2010 draft. With Marty Turco on the cusp of unrestricted free agency, it makes sense for the Stars to get what they can in exchange for their goalie of the 2000s. Current scuttlebutt has the Philadelphia Flyers talking to Dallas about Turco.

Does this mean that Dallas is throwing in the towel for this season despite only being a few points out of a playoff spot?

I think it’s very arguable that Kari Lehtonen is a better goalie than Marty Turco when healthy.

A posse ad esse.

Yeah, I think “throwing in the towel” would have involved replacing Turco with Emery or Toskala. Lehtonen is a bit of a gamble, but he could end up really helping them.

At the least

The Stars are saying that they need to try something different, because Marty’s not working.

When healthy, I’d agree. Lehtonen’s one limber guy. The problem is that his groin is as brittle as a Nestle Crunch bar.

I dunno, as unreliable as Turco’s been in net, he’s played well lately. Maybe I’ve been burned by Lehtonen as a sleeper fantasy pick too many times, but I won’t believe the guy can stay in one piece until he proves it. To me, this seems like this year becomes a write-off because Lehtonen’s RFA following the season. I suppose it’s a reasonable gamble, as if Lehtonen stays healthy and plays well, they can re-sign him, and if he sucks, they could just let him go.

Nestle Crunch bars are actually less brittle than Kari’s groin. It’s the milk chocolate.

The Avalanche, clearly, are down with No PP.
