Weekend Preview: Prepare For The Fight

Every Saturday, FTR will pick the five games to watch over the upcoming weekend.

This weekend's soundtrack: Prepare for the Fight by The Lovemakers -- not only are The Lovemakers a staple of Bay Area indie rock, this song's appropriate for a big Washington/Chicago showdown. Will it be a precursor to a June match-up?

#1: Washington Capitals at Chicago Blackhawks, Sunday at 12:30 PM EST
Could this be a Cup final preview? Or could these be the two contenders that flame out because of their goaltending situation? On paper, this should be a spirited, high-scoring affair, and while it doesn't have the rivalry cache of a Caps/Penguins game, it still features a ridiculous amount of on-ice talent. Even if you don't have a vested interested, it should still be a hell of a game to watch.

#2: Nashville Predators at Los Angeles Kings, Sunday at 3 PM EST
Not too long ago, home ice was a possibility for the Predators. Throw in a few stumbles and suddenly the formula gets changed quite a bit. That puts a huge spotlight on this game, as the Kings are in a tight race for the coveted fourth spot in the Western Conference. If the Preds can beat them, not only do they separate themselves from the playoff bubble, they also take the proverbial four-point swing on the Kings. This one could have all sorts of repercussions on th topsy-turvy Western standings.

#3: Ottawa Senators at Vancouver Canucks, Saturday 10 PM EST
The Sens and Canucks don't exactly have a lot of bad blood between them, but this is still a quality match-up between two playoff-bound teams. Ottawa's struggled since the Olympics while Vancouver has earned points in four of its last five.

#4: Boston Bruins at Montreal Canadiens, Saturday at 7 PM EST
The Bruins breathed new life into their season with a commanding 5-1 win over the Flyers on Thursday night. Now, with their playoff hopes on the line, it's fitting that they take on their arch-rivals in the Montreal Canadiens. The Habs have been hot recently while the Bruins' recent woes have been well documented. Can Boston rally around Marc Savard to push forward or will the hot Habs stomp out their rivals' playoff hopes?

#5: Edmonton Oilers at Toronto Maple Leafs, Saturday at 7 PM EST
Or, the Battle for the Lottery Pick. Except the Leafs traded their pick away in the Phil Kessel deal, so they have plenty of motivation not to tank. And with Oilers fans cheering each loss, well, this one could get interesting, especially if you create your own drinking game just for this broadcast.
