NHL Trade deadline update: The calm before the storm? Here's your 11-12 update

I think all that went down between 11am and 12pm today is easily the hour we can dub "the calm before the storm." Only a few things registered but the hype is definitely picking up.

Here's what we saw this hour:

Major Trades

Boston Bruins acquire Dennis Seidenberg and Matthew Bartkowski from Florida Panthers in exchange for Craig Weller, Byron Bitz and a second-round pick.

Analysis: We knew Seidenberg was on the move today and sure enough he's dealt before lunch time.  Bartkowski is easily (and perhaps kindly) dubbed a "depth move."  Florida is one of the leading teams on the selling market and will likely look to pick up some draft picks throughout the day.  Tally up a second rounder with still three hours to go before the deadline ends.  Craig Weller's NHL experience is limited.  At 28 years old he's played a few NHL games, most recently with the Wild last season.  Prior to that, he made his NHL debut with the Coyotes in 07-08.  Byron Bitz hasn't played since the second week of February when he started to notice a dramatic cut in ice time.

Anaheim Ducks acquire Aaron Ward from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for goalie Justin Pogge and a fourth-round pick.

Analysis: It's pretty much out there by now that this may be Aaron Ward's final season.  Looks like he'll have to adjust to the warm weather in California (which shouldn't be too much a difference from Carolina).  As for Justin Pogge...yeah.  How bout that?

After the jump, a few leads/hints/rumors from the experts on Twitter.

Star-divide

If you are keeping tabs on Twitter then perhaps you've seen the following:

Atlanta Thrashers beat writer Chris Vivlamore hints Slava Kozlov's time on the ice this morning may be temporary, saying, "Slava Kozlov still here - for now - and has taken the Thrashers practice ice."

CBC's Elliotte Friedman breaks down a few teams that may be interested in Cory Schneider.

Andy Strickland says MIke Smith and Matt Carle are on the market but not getting much attention.

TSN analysts also speculating that Ryan Whitney may be on the move, but that wasn't revealed so much as a fact or heavy rumor but more along the lines of, "Do you think this means Ryan Whitney is moving?"  In other words, take it with a grain of salt.

With a name like Byron Bitz, you have a ridiculous cult following everywhere.
