This is it, folks. Definitely less excitement than previous years, though if you combine the pre-Olympic deals, it was a pretty significant stretch of player movement. The bigger story might be the teams that didn't get address their goaltending needs (Chicago Blackhawks, Washington Capitals, Philadelphia Flyers).

Major Deals

Anaheim Ducks (Anaheim Calling) send Ryan Whitney to the Edmonton Oilers (Copper & Blue) for Lubomir Visnovsky.

Analysis: Visnovsky returns to southern California, only this time it's for Anaheim, not Los Angeles. Never mind his IOC reprimand, he's still put up 32 points so far this season for a pretty stagnant Edmonton squad that's had its wheels fall off. Whitney was an injury replacement for Team USA and is having a decent year in Anaheim. Visnovsky ($5.6 million) has a higher cap hit than Whitney ($4 million).

Toronto Maple Leafs (Pension Plan Puppets) send Lee Stempniak to the Phoenix Coyotes (Five For Howling) for 4th and 7th round picks.
Analysis: Boy, the Coyotes really re-tooled, didn't they? Stempniak's several years  removed from a successful campaign in St. Louis; he's been a total bust in Toronto but gets a fresh start with Phoenix. At 26, Stempniak isn't exactly a young player anymore but he can still return to the 20-goal plateau with the right situation.

Columbus Blue Jackets (The Cannon) send Fredrick Modin to the Los Angeles Kings (Jewels From The Crown) for future considerations
Analysis: The salary dumping continues in Columbus. If healthy, Modin can still be an effective power play contributor. He's also solid defensively and a noted locker room leader with Stanley Cup experience -- just what the young LA Kings need.

Washington Capitals (Japers' Rink)send Brian Pothier, Oskar Osala, and a 2nd round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes (Canes Country) for Joe Corvo.
Analysis: Washington gets a veteran puck-moving defenseman -- probably not their most pressing need, though they did want to beef up that back end a little bit. A guy like Corvo can slot in on the second power play unit and eat up some minutes. Corvo has no points since returning from injury back in February, but he'll surely get some now playing on the powerhouse Washington squad. Injuries have kept Pothier from returning to the 35-point campaign he had in Ottawa back in 05-06. Osala, a 4th round prospect, has scored goals and provided two-way play for international teams but has yet to stick with the NHL.

Carolina Hurricanes (Canes Country) send Andrew Alberts to the Vancouver Canucks (Nucks Misconduct) for a 3rd round pick.

Analysis: Nothing more than a salary dump (Carolina) and a depth move (Vancouver) here. Alberts gets a regular shift in a checking role but isn't a gamebreaker by any means.

Columbus Blue Jackets (The Cannon) send Mathieu Roy to the Florida Panthers (Litter Box Cats) for Matt Rust.

Analysis: Roy hasn't played since mid-February, but until then he was eating up 15-17 minutes per night on the blueline. Rust is still a NCAA forward prospect for Michigan.

Calgary Flames (Matchsticks & Gasoline) send Dustin Boyd to the Nashville Predators (On The Forecheck) for a 4th round pick.

Analysis: Boyd's a fourth-line checker that averages less than 10 minutes a night in Calgary for Brent Sutter. The former 3rd rounder is one year removed from his career high of 11 goals, but don't expect anything significant out of him.

Update: A straggler more than an hour after the deadline -- Edmonton sends Steve Staios to the Calgary Flames for Aaron Johnson. Yes, Edmonton and Calgary trade...and the world hasn't imploded. In the past week, Edmonton has shed significant amounts of salary for July 1.

Update 2: Stephane Yelle returns home, as he heads back to the Colorado Avalanche. In exchange, Carolina gets prospect Cedric McNicoll and a 6th round pick. Please, no more late stragglers so I can finish my lunch!
