Non-Kovy palate cleanser: Car hockey
It's a bit tough to get away from all the Ilya Kovalchuk madness, isn't it? I suppose it doesn't help when it's the only story going on in the league (unless you count Henrik Zetterberg's wedding as hockey news). So, to switch things up a bit and lighten the mood, here's something from our friends across the pond. They love their cars and kinda like hockey, and when you put the two together, wackiness ensues.
If you've never seen Top Gear, it's a long-running BBC program about cars. That sounds boring, but it's a quirky combination of dudes blokes talking about cars, celebrities driving crappy cars, blatant destruction and speed tests of vehicles, and pure vehicle porn of new cars you and I will never be able to afford (though certainly Alex Ovechkin can). And in 2006, they decided to play hockey with cars.
From the Wikipedia description of the segment:
Ten Suzuki Swifts played 5-a-side hockey, in teams captained by Hammond and May, and refereed by Clarkson. May's team was called "primetime television" playing in Buffalo Sabres colours, while Hammond's team was called "daytime television" playing in Montreal Canadiens colours.
We'll forgive the Brits if they don't know their one-timer from their blue line. Ten cars sliding around a makeshift rink and a giant inflatable puck is awesome. Watch the video after the jump and forget about CBA clauses or contract negotiations for ten minutes.
