Believe it or not, it's almost August and there are still quite a few talented hockey players available on the market.  Let's take a break from the ever-tantalizing Ilya Kovalchuk news and see who might be of interest.

Alexander Frolov:  The highly skilled winger is looking for a big payday and has yet to find one.  He's scored over 30 goals twice in his young career and might very well be a first line forward for some team.  The Rangers have been rumored to be looking at him, but would it surprise anyone to see him end up in the Southeast?  Atlanta, Florida, and Tampa Bay could each use the salary cap boost.

Lee Stempniak:  Here is another winger with skill enough to pot some goals.  He scored 28 between two teams last season, including 14 in just 18 games for Phoenix, and also had 27 for St. Louis in 2006-07.  Stempniak told Pierre LeBrun about a week ago that he is surprised at how slow the market is right now.

"I mean, I'm certainly surprised," Stempniak told ESPN.com on Thursday. "And not just with me, but with all the players that are out there right now, especially forwards. There's a lot of very, very good forwards that are still out there on the market."

Phoenix wouldn't mind bringing him back and GM Don Maloney says he is working on it.  But how hard can it be? 

Paul Kariya:   This player's best days are behind him, but he still might have something to give a team at the right price.  Could he return with Teemu Selanne for another go round with the Ducks?  One thing for sure, he won't be back with the Blues.   

Teemu Selanne:  Speaking of Selanne, it's been reported that he has had negotiations with the Ducks for a two year contract.  That's right, two years.  Seems like a long term deal for someone who was strongly considering retirement just two months ago.

Eric Belanger:  The well traveled center, (five teams in last five years), supposedly wants a multi-year deal and while the Washington Capitals could do worse than by re-signing him, they apparently do not want to lock him up.  Looks like new team number six is coming up for the sometimes moody player.  

Bill Guerin:  There are several questions about Guerin.  Do the Penguins want to bring him back again?  Would he play a year for a different team?  Does he want to retire?  While the 39 year old is getting a bit long of tooth, he still scored 21 goals last year and looks like he at least could be a useful third liner for someone. 

Jose Theodore:  The much maligned goalie had one of the better regular seasons of his career last year, (.911 save percentage), but is a victim of the large number of goalies available this offseason.  Of course it didn't help matters that he also had a rough playoffs for the Caps, but he still should have something to give for a team needing an experienced backup, if nothing else

Marty Turco:  Another one of those goalies is Turco, the long time Dallas netminder who was cut loose last season.  If Turco's save percentage of .913 in 55 games last year was for real, he might still have some life left in him.  Again, he's another good choice for an experienced backup, but how many of those jobs are out there?  Not many.
