Some new team names?
From today's "Get Fuzzy" comic strip. Bucky comes up with some monkey concepts for a couple of well known hockey teams and a fairly well known football team too...

Bettman's Nightmare? NHL Contraction
With phrases like "Hockey doesn't belong in Atlanta" it doesn't seem as if Mr. Lobdell and Mr. Bettman would get along. Also wanting to shorten the season from June to May is a clear indicator that he is downright insane.

A Balsillie Character Reference
I came across a pretty good character reference for Mr. Balsille over at Coyote Blog (no relation to the hockey team or hockey beyond thinking that public funding of stadiums is not appropriate and living in the Phoenix area).

End of career contracts and the CBA
I was reading this article and when I saw the part about what $1M will buy in 2020, I started wondering.
What happens if (it's a big if, but worth talking about) Chris Pronger wants to actually play his last contract season, 2016-2017? He's only scheduled to make $525,000.
What happens if the CBA is changed to raise the league minimum to a higher amount than that?

Jason Williams returns to Detroit
How they get these serviceable players for such discounts, is way beyond me.

Damn that looks like a good time being around the Stanley Cup at the Club, I wonder how many phone numbers they scored that night, if you know what I mean ;)

Canucks Sports & Entertainment announced today that President and CEO, Chris Zimmerman has made the decision to step down from his position for family reasons. Zimmerman has spent the past three seasons providing the overall strategic direction for the company. General Manager and Alternate Governor, Mike Gillis, has been named President of Canucks Sports & Entertainment.
"I have made the very difficult decision to resign my position with Canucks Sports & Entertainment and re-locate my family back to the eastern United States," said Zimmerman. "These past three years have been a tremendous personal and professional experience for me and I have loved working and living in the greatest hockey city in the world. I would like to thank the Aquilini family for their commitment to this city and this team, the incredible staff at Canucks Sports & Entertainment, our loyal business partners and the most passionate fans in the NHL for their support during my time here in Vancouver."
